Down by the River: A night of Neil Young Songs by local wellknowns
During the first lockdown in 2020 Dave Mitchell got in touch with Patrick Doyle to see how many Neil Young songs he knew and could play . When he said lots Dave said “would you be interested in putting a Neil Young show together ? ” Patrick said yes, agreed to be the musical director , and the search went out for the most appropriate musicians in town to fit the bill .
Once this had been organised and a rough set list emerged, rehearsals happened in a variety of ways, although the whole crew only got together on the night of the performance. There were to be solo performances, duos, trios and more. First set was acoustic guitar based. Patrick’s electric band “Riff Raff “ were the backing outfit for the second , more electric set.
There were Neil Young songs from every decade since the 60s.
After 2 months the show was ready to be staged. That took place at St Mary’s church in Addington in July 2020, and was very well received .
