The Wax Birds: beautiful harmonies and songs, 5 March 2023
From their opening lines, The Wax birds, a couple in music and life, engaged, both with the audience and between each other there was chemistry of enjoyment and trust. A delight to see this energy shine onstage, giving them an air of allegiance, which gives those listening the opportunity to relax and benefit from the fine musicianship. The encouragement to include some longer items and instrumental breaks to draw out continuity would enhance the set list.
Whilst listening to three verse structure offers the chance to hear a broad variety of numbers added depth and exploration would have strengthened the flow of the concert. Joanna and Peter have a gift for songwriting, their originals were fresh, offered contrast and interest, whilst sitting with credit beside well-chosen covers. Look forward to seeing this pair develop further, their joy for mucic and performing is infectious and deserves to continue to be heard and enjoyed.
