Christchurch Folk Music Club
The Chaps, the final concert to mark the 50th Celbrations
The finale concert on Sunday 25th November 2018, to celebrate the Folk Club’s 50th anniversary weekend, we welcomed The Chaps from Dunedin acknowledging the long supportive association that exists between the Folk Clubs in Christchurch and Dunedin. Since 1989 The Chaps quartet has been wowing audiences across New Zealand and Europe.
In a musical style variously described and as hornless jazz, banjoless bluegrass and drumless rock, they have entertained with their brand of quirky humour and vocal and instrumental prowess since their inception. It is a long time since we have had to put the sign up to say “Concert Full”, and still they kept coming and asking if possible to get a seat. A great choice for this concert, thank you to Life Member Russell Gillies for the recommendation.
Thanks to the Chaps for making this night a true celebration of the joy of music. The weekend commemorated the fellowship that has unfolded over the past fifty years of the Christchurch Folk Music Club, and the renewing of connections of those present over the weekend was heart warming and achieved our goal of convening a gathering where friendships will once again be honoured and the gift of music that we have all shared will be continue to upheld and treasured.
May the next fifty years of the Folk Club continue to be blessed with concerts where great talent warms our hearts, have toes tapping, the opportunities to harmonise soar and offer the chance to foster live acoustic music as both a profession and a well-founded avocation.
